Top Tips for a Stunning Signing Table

Struggling for the words?

For couples curating a personalised wedding, with a theme or inspiration, most of Pinterest’s suggestions fall around the reception – table decorations and centrepieces, wall hangings for photographs, even the food. But you could be missing a key area to add decoration, which adds to the ceremony, and will look amazing in photos.

Whether you call it the ‘Chancel Table’, ‘Signing Table’ or (for those Game of Thrones fans out there) your ‘High Table’ – if you’re including a ceremonious certificate signing, you’re going to need somewhere to write. If you like the tradition of signing the registry, but you’re working with an Independent Celebrant, you have a lot more flexibility with the décor, and that means you can enjoy decorating your table to suit the theme of your wedding.

We’ve got some ideas of things you could add to your table, which will look great in photos and add to the design of your big day.

Typewriters & Books

Books, especially second-hand or classic books, are inexpensive and flexible. Stack them, cut them, shape them – you can create all kinds of decorative spaces, and typewriters are so quintessentially vintage, that the stark contrast of those beautiful machines and your flowers will look great in photos and add a little bit of history to your signing table. Equally, old brass objects and candles add a level of vintage and shine to your table which can look elegant, no matter your theme.

Decorative Frames

This is a celebration of your love, so why not cover your table in decorative photo frames, showcasing that very thing? If you splashed out for an engagement photoshoot, fill those frames with your favourite photos. Or, get your guests to choose a photo of you and them. Either way, they’ll make a charming and emotional backdrop for your ceremony.

Sculptures & Greenery

Whether you’re looking for a more natural aesthetic, or downright Dark Academia, concrete or stone sculptures mixed with greenery can create a really atmospheric backdrop to your ceremony. They don’t have to be too big; you don’t want them taking centre stage, but the bright white or grey (texture of your choice) can look sophisticated against a darker tablecloth.

All of these suggestions are designed to add to your special day’s theme, making the most of the flexibility you have of getting married with an independent celebrant. If you’d like to know more about having a wedding bespoke to you, contact us today.
